ElevenLabs and Murf AI are two of the names people compare most when choosing an AI voice tool for voiceovers. They overlap on text to speech, but they are built for slightly different jobs. ElevenLabs is a wide voice AI platform with expressive models, voice cloning, dubbing, music and an agents product. Murf is a voiceover studio aimed at business content, with an editor, presentation add-ons and a low-cost API. I compared both from their own pricing and product pages on 27 October 2026.

ElevenLabs vs Murf AI, a quick comparison

ElevenLabs splits its product into ElevenCreative (text to speech, Studio, dubbing, music, sound effects, image and video), ElevenAgents and the ElevenAPI. Its newest model, Eleven v4, is described as its most emotive model yet and supports audio tags for fine control of delivery.

Murf sells three things: Studio (a voiceover editor for projects), Dub (translation and dubbing) and an API. Its Studio plans list 200+ AI voices in 30+ languages and accents, with controls for pronunciation, emphasis and pacing, and integrations with Canva, PowerPoint and Google Slides.

Voice quality and controls

I have not compared the voices side by side myself, so treat this as what each vendor offers rather than a verdict on which sounds better. Listen to samples of the specific voices you would use before you buy.

ElevenLabs gives you several models to pick from: v4 for expressive delivery, v3 for dramatic performance and multi-speaker dialogue, and faster Turbo and Flash models for real-time use. Audio tags let you direct emotion and delivery inside the script.

Murf’s Studio controls are aimed at getting a business voiceover right: change pronunciations, add emphasis, adjust variability and a Say It My Way feature (on Business) where you record how a line should sound. A personal pronunciation library is included on Creator and Business. For corporate narration, that kind of editing control is often more useful than raw expressiveness.

Voice cloning

ElevenLabs is the stronger choice for voice cloning on a budget. Instant voice cloning starts on the $6 Starter plan and professional voice cloning on the $22 Creator plan. Murf lists professional voice cloning on its Enterprise plan, so cloning your own voice is a bigger commitment there.

Pricing tier by tier

Tier ElevenLabs Murf AI
Free Free: 10,000 credits (about 10 minutes of TTS) Free trial; $10 free API credit
Entry Starter $6/month: 30,000 credits, commercial licence Creator from $19/month: 100 projects, 24 hours of voice generation, commercial rights
Middle Creator $22/month: 121,000 credits, professional cloning Business from $66/month: 500 projects, 96 hours, business licence
Higher Pro $99/month: 600,000 credits Enterprise: custom
API $0.04 to $0.08 per 1,000 characters by model $0.01 (Falcon 2.1) or $0.03 (Gen2) per 1,000 characters, pay as you go

For studio use, ElevenLabs is cheaper to start, has a free plan, and its unused credits roll over for up to two months. Murf’s yearly billing saves 33%, and its plans measure usage in hours of voice generation rather than credits, which some people find easier to budget for. For the API, Murf is cheaper per character on paper: Falcon 2.1 is $0.01 per 1,000 characters, and Murf says it has time to first audio under 100ms.

Is Murf AI cheaper than ElevenLabs on paid plans?

A like-for-like comparison is hard because the two measure usage differently. ElevenLabs paid plans give you credits (about 30 minutes of text to speech on Starter, 121 on Creator and 600 on Pro, by its own estimate), shared across every tool. Murf’s paid plans give you hours of voice generation time (24 hours on Creator, 96 on Business) for its Studio only. If you produce a few long voiceovers a month, Murf’s hours may stretch further. If you produce many short pieces, or mix voiceover with dubbing and sound effects, ElevenLabs’ cheaper entry tiers are likely to suit better. Check the current usage limits for your plan before committing to a year.

Workflow, editing and integrations

Murf is built around projects. You write or paste a script, choose voices, adjust pronunciation and timing in the editor, then export (Full HD export quality is listed). Business adds audio to text, PowerPoint and Google Slides add-ons and Murf voices for Windows apps, which suits training and presentation production.

ElevenLabs Studio covers long-form projects such as audiobooks and narration, and the same credits also pay for dubbing, sound effects and music. That makes it the more flexible tool if your production work goes beyond plain voiceover.

Security and business use

Murf lists HIPAA and GDPR compliance and ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certification on its pricing page. ElevenLabs offers DPAs, SLAs, custom SSO and HIPAA BAAs on its Enterprise plan. Both are used by businesses, but Murf puts more of its compliance information up front.

Final verdict, ElevenLabs or Murf?

Choose ElevenLabs if you want expressive narration, cheap voice cloning, dubbing or sound and music in one subscription, or a free plan to test with. It is the more complete AI voice platform.

Choose Murf if your work is business voiceover: e-learning modules, explainer video narration, product demos and presentations. Its editor, pronunciation tools and Office-style add-ons are aimed squarely at that workflow, and its API is cheaper per character.
