Frase and NeuronWriter both started as SEO content tools that analyse the top-ranking pages for a keyword and help you write something better. They have since gone in different directions. Frase has become what it calls a content operating system for AI search, with an agent that researches, drafts, publishes and repairs content. NeuronWriter remains a content optimization editor, now extended to AI search visibility. I compared them from each vendor’s website and pricing page on 27 October 2026. To be open about it, SaaSPic uses NeuronWriter for some of its own pages, but this comparison is based only on what each vendor publishes.
Frase overview
Frase describes a monthly loop: Frase Answers (a conversational widget on your site) captures the questions visitors ask, the agent studies what already ranks and drafts an optimized article in your voice, the piece is pushed to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix (or hosted on FraseCMS), existing pages are scored for SEO, GEO and AI visibility, and Content Guard writes revisions when a live page starts losing rank. The agent can publish on its own if you allow it. Frase also runs through an MCP server and CLI, so you can use it from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or a terminal, on every plan.
NeuronWriter overview
NeuronWriter describes itself as a content optimization platform for SEO, AI Overviews and answer engines, used by 300,000+ users. The core workflow is simple: enter a keyword, see what competitors cover, then build your content using the suggested terms and a live content score. On top of that it offers GEO optimization, AI visibility monitoring of your brand across AI models, a Content Designer, one-click AI articles, AI image generation, a content planner and, from Gold, plagiarism checks, integrations with Google Search Console, WordPress and Shopify, your own OpenAI key and an API and MCP.
Optimization and analysis feature comparison
Both tools analyse the search results for a keyword and score your content. NeuronWriter’s strength is the detailed, editor-first approach: suggested terms, content structure and a score you can push up while you write, which suits writers who want control over every draft. Frase leans more on automation. It gives you a finished draft rather than an outline, then keeps auditing and patching pages after they go live.
On AI search, Frase’s AI Visibility tracks ChatGPT and Google AI on Starter, adds Perplexity on Professional and Claude and Gemini on Scale. NeuronWriter includes a set number of AI-monitored questions on each plan (5 on Bronze up to 20 on Diamond).
Writing briefs, SERP analysis and score recommendations
The day-to-day difference shows up when you start a new topic. In NeuronWriter you create a document for a keyword and get SERP data straight away: competitor pages, their word counts and headings, a list of suggested terms with how often to use them, and questions people ask. You use that as a writing brief, draft in the editor (or generate a draft with AI credits) and watch the content score rise as you follow each term recommendation. The strategy is yours; the tool keeps you on track.
In Frase, the agent does the research and writes the draft for you, then scores it for SEO, GEO and AI visibility. You review and edit, and either publish yourself or let the agent publish. It suits teams with a clear content strategy who want volume without briefing writers for every article.
My view is that writers who care about every sentence will prefer NeuronWriter’s editor, and marketing teams who measure output in articles per month will lean towards Frase. Either way, check every draft for accuracy before it goes live, because AI drafts can include confident mistakes.
Workflow and publishing
Frase is built to ship: it publishes straight to your CMS, and FraseCMS hosting is included free up to 100,000 page views a month, with paid FraseCMS tiers at $19 and $99 a month for more traffic and no badge. Professional adds a content calendar, internal linking suggestions and repurposing for social channels.
NeuronWriter’s workflow is closer to a classic research and writing tool. You plan content, write or generate drafts in its editor, then export or publish through its WordPress and Shopify integrations on Gold and above.
Pricing compared
| Tier | Frase | NeuronWriter |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | Starter $49/month ($39 yearly): 1 seat, 1 site, 10 articles, 50 audit pages | Bronze $23/month: 2 projects, 25 documents, 15,000 AI credits |
| Middle | Professional $129/month ($103 yearly): 3 seats, 5 sites, 40 articles | Silver $45/month: 5 projects, 50 documents; Gold $69/month: 10 projects, 75 documents, team, API |
| Upper | Scale $299/month ($239 yearly): 5 seats, 10 domains, 100 articles | Platinum $93/month: 25 projects; Diamond $117/month: 50 projects, 150 documents |
| Enterprise | Custom, with SSO and white-label reports | Not listed on the page I read |
NeuronWriter’s yearly billing gives two months free, and Frase’s saves 20%. Frase’s Starter plan stops at its monthly limits rather than charging extra, and pay-as-you-go is optional and off by default on higher plans. On price per document, NeuronWriter is much cheaper; Frase’s prices reflect the drafting, publishing and monitoring it does for you.
Limits and drawbacks
- Frase’s Starter plan is limited to 1 site and 10 articles a month.
- Frase’s automation means less manual control unless you review each draft.
- NeuronWriter’s lower plans leave out team members, integrations, plagiarism checks and the API.
- NeuronWriter has no content decay monitoring comparable to Frase’s Content Guard.
Surfer SEO as an alternative
Surfer SEO is the other tool usually in this comparison. I have not covered its current pricing here, but it sits closer to NeuronWriter as an editor-first optimization tool. If you’re choosing between all three, the question is the same: do you want a tool that helps your writers write better pages (NeuronWriter, Surfer) or a system that does more of the work for you (Frase)?
SEO tool comparison verdict
I would pick NeuronWriter if you have writers (or write yourself) and want detailed keyword and competitor analysis, a content score and AI visibility tracking at a low price. Gold at $69 a month is the plan that unlocks most of the useful extras.
I would pick Frase if you want an agent to research, draft, publish and maintain content across one or more sites, and you value Content Guard and the MCP and CLI access. Use the 7-day trial to check the drafts match your standards before letting the agent publish on its own.
